Teacher Shortage Loan Repayment Program Data
A Minnesota funded loan forgiveness program for teachers working in defined teacher shortage areas
The 2015 Minnesota Legislature enacted the Teacher Shortage Loan Forgiveness Program. The program provides student loan debt relief, in the form of repayment awards, to teachers working in shortage areas identified by the Minnesota Department of Education's "Teacher Supply and Demand Report." See administrative rules governing program.
The loan repayment program was created to:
- Encourage qualified licensed teachers to work in identified teacher shortage area classrooms.
- Reduce the number of school districts unable to hire fully licensed teachers in particular license fields.
