Advice for Students with Disabilities

If you're a student with a learning or physical disability, it's important you know your needs. Make sure the colleges you are interested in can meet those needs. In college, it's your responsibility to request accommodation and provide documentation of your disabilities.

Colleges are not required to provide the same level of accommodation as high schools, even if requested. Most colleges do have some level of service. Check with college's student services office.

• Make a list of questions to ask a college's disability services office. Call the office and visit the college to find answers to your questions.
• Make a list of accommodations you need. Ask yourself which modifications you can provide and which the college needs to provide.
