MnSCU Two-Year Occupational Grant Pilot Program

The MnSCU Two-Year Occupational Grant Pilot Program provides financial assistance to students enrolled in qualifying career and technical programs at Minnesota State two-year colleges leading to employment in a high-demand occupation. The program started in 2016-2017 with its first cohort of students. The grant covers any remaining tuition and general fee charges after the student's Federal Pell Grant and Minnesota State Grant have been applied.

To qualify for the grant, students must:

• Have begun enrollment during fall semester 2016 in a qualifying program at a Minnesota State two-year college immediately following completion of a Minnesota high school, an Adult Basic Education program/GED test, or a 12 or 24-month Americorps;
• Meet the definition of Minnesota resident used for state financial aid programs;
• Have a family adjusted gross income (or wages for non-filers) of $90,000 or less;
• Participate in free mentoring services throughout the student's academic program; and
• Have tuition and fee charges not covered by Pell and State Grants.

Summer Transition Grants (discontinued)

The Summer Transition Grant provided financial assistance directly to eligible Minnesota students attending research-based high school-to-college summer developmental transition programs. Summer programs were offered by Minnesota colleges between students' high school graduation and the freshman year of postsecondary education starting in summer 2010 and ending with summer 2014. Students completed a college readiness assessment which identified academic skills needing improvement. The program provided support services to assist high school graduates develop the skills and abilities necessary for college-level coursework once the student enrolled in a postsecondary program.

Achieve Scholarship (discontinued)

The Achieve Scholarship program was a Minnesota-funded financial aid program for Minnesota high school graduates starting in 2008-2009 and ending in 2010-2011. The program was designed to address two critical barriers to college attendance: lack of academic preparation and financial access. Eligible Minnesota high school graduates who completed any one of four sets of high school courses defined as rigorous earned a one-time scholarship to help pay for college at a public or private university or college in Minnesota.

Summer Scholarships for Academic Enrichment (discontinued)

The Summer Scholarships for Academic Enrichment program provided scholarships for Minnesota students in grades 7-11 who attend summer academic programs sponsored by Minnesota postsecondary institutions.

The program was eliminated by the 2003 Minnesota Legislature. However, a similar program was re-introduced in recent years with different eligibility criteria. The Summer Academic Enrichment Program offers limited stipends for students attending eligible summer camps.
